Thugs of Hindostan is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language epic period action adventure film written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. The film is based on Philip Meadows Taylor's 1839 novel Confessions of a Thug,[2][3] about a Thug called Ameer Ali, whose gang of Thugs posed a serious challenge to the British Empire in India (then known as Hindustan or Hindostan) during the early 19th century.[2] The film stars Amitabh Bachchan,[2] Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh.[4][5] Thugs of Hindostan is set to be released during Diwali on 7 November 2018.[6]

  • Amitabh Bachchan as Ismail, the second lead character, a high-ranking Thug and the adoptive father of Ameer Ali.[2]
  • Fatima Sana Shaikh will be seen playing one of the three lead characters.[4]
  • Katrina Kaif will be playing a classical Indian character.[7]

The film's production budget is 210 crore (US$33 million),[1] making it the most expensive Yash Raj Films production.[8] Filming commenced on 5 June 2017 in Malta. The film is also being shot in Thailand.[9]

It is the first time that Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are collaborating on a film. It is also Khan's second time collaborating with Vijay Krishna Acharya and Katrina Kaif, after Dhoom 3 (2013).[10] The film will have a dance sequence featuring Bachchan, choreographed by Prabhu Deva.[11] It will also reportedly feature sea battles similar to ones seen in films such as Pirates of the Caribbean.[2]
