Early life[edit]

Goth was born in Guy's Hospital in London, England.[4] Her mother is Brazilian, while her father is Canadian, originally from Nova Scotia.[5] Her maternal grandparents are American artist Lee Jaffe and Brazilian actress Maria Gladys.[6]

Goth moved to Brazil when she was a few weeks old, because her mother, who was only 20 years old at the time, needed help from her family in order to raise her.[4] They returned to Britain when she was five and later briefly relocated to her father's native Canada when she was ten.[4] There, she went to nine schools in a single schoolyear alone and stated that the period they tried to live with her father was difficult.[4] Aged twelve, she and her mother settled in south-east London, where Goth went to secondary school.[4]

Aged 14, she was discovered at the Underage Festival in London by fashion photographer Gemma Booth, who signed her to Storm Model Management. She subsequently appeared in advertisements for Vogue and Miu Miu. She began to audition for films at the age of 16, and after finishing sixth form, she won her first role in Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac, along with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe in the segment "The Gun".[7][8] Later she played Sophie Campbell in the Sky Atlantic's crime drama series The Tunnel.[7][9]

In 2014, Goth appeared in the Future Unlimited's music video for "Haunted Love," which was directed by Shia LaBeouf.[10] Later she appeared in Stephen Fingleton's directed introductory short film Magpie along with Martin McCann.[10]

In 2015, Goth played the lead role of Milja in the post-apocalyptic thriller The Survivalist along with McCann, and directed by Fingleton. The film was premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival on 18 April 2015.[10] She also appeared in the BBC One's crime series Wallander as Hanna Helmqvist.[10]

Goth played Meg Weathers in the disaster adventure-thriller film Everest, which was directed by Baltasar Kormákur, along with Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, and Robin Wright.[7][8]

In 2017, Goth played a lead role in the horror film A Cure for Wellness, directed by Gore Verbinski.[8]

In 2018, Goth had a supporting role in Luca Guadagnino's remake of Suspiria, alongside Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton, as well as the sci-fi mystery film High Life, directed by Claire Denis, opposite Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche.

She is next starring in The Devil All The Time, a film by Antonio Campos.

Personal life[edit]

Goth met her co-star and later boyfriend, American actor Shia LaBeouf while filming Nymphomaniac in 2012. On 10 October 2016, Goth and LaBeouf appeared to get married in a Las Vegas ceremony officiated by an Elvis impersonator.[11][12] Two days later, a local official claimed that the pair wasn't legally married, but instead a commitment ceremony was performed.[13] Later that month, LaBeouf confirmed their nuptials on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.[14] In September 2018, it was announced the couple had separated and filed for divorce.[15]
